Book Review:The Saga of the Outlaw Harry Tracy

I really enjoyed reading The Saga of the Outlaw Harry Tracy. It was like I was back in 1902 in Oregon and Washington at the end of the era known as the "Wild West". Mr. Nystrom has taken the reports from the local newspapers and has brought to life an episode from a bygone era when one man could challenge authority with his boldness and initiative and even win out against it, at least temporarily. By the end of the book, I felt like I had an insight into what life was like in turn-of-the-century Pacific Northwest. I also felt like I was a part of the frustrating process of hunting down a man who seemed to elude every group of men sent out to get him. Harry Tracy was truly a unique personality, and he stands out in the annals of western criminal behavior like Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (his fellow gang members), the Daltons, the Clantons, Billy the Kid and Jessie James. This is a interesting historical window into a fascinating past.

It was fun reliving northwest history. Enjoyed the book.
great
I was astounded by all the bumbling of law enforcement and search parties during the course of the search for Harry Tracy. He was a clever murderer. The book was a bit dry in writing style, but I was still impressed by all the research regarding the facts that went into writing this blow-by-blow book. Good local history.
I want to highly recommend Mr. James Nystrom's book. As a physician and history buff I thoroughly enjoyed the manhunt for the Wild Bunch outlaw Harry Tracy. The reader gets an excellent picture of the struggles the people of the Northwest endured at the turn of the century. The author's detailed research of Harry Tracy's last years was presented in an enjoyable, exciting, and insightful manner. The accounting of the two month manhunt for the outlaw left you on the edge of your seat until he was finally brought to justice. The summary of his multiple encouters with the everyday population and the frustration of the multiple law enforcement men was thoughtfully described. This book is a must read for people who enjoy history and excitement in their reading endeavors.
